Vehicle Emissions Clinic Expected to Attract Large Crowd

WHITEHORSE - The popular Vehicle Emissions Clinic, sponsored this year by Energy, Mines and Resources’ Energy Solutions Centre, is taking place in Whitehorse Sept. 20 and 21.

"The Vehicle Emissions Clinic is another example of how government is working to enhance awareness and understanding so that everyone can do their part to reduce greenhouse gas emissions," Energy, Mines and Resources Minister Archie Lang said.

The Energy Solutions Centre anticipates as many as 200 vehicles through the clinic to check tire pressure, gas cap seals, and carbon monoxide and hydrocarbon levels all of which affect fuel economy. Improved fuel economy can save money and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

According to Natural Resources Canada’s AutoSmart Guide, light-duty vehicles account for roughly 12 per cent of carbon dioxide emissions in Canada. Regular maintenance can drastically reduce vehicle emissions by one third of a tonne each year and help minimize air pollution and greenhouse gases. In addition, properly inflated tires can cut fuel consumption by up to 10 per cent.

"Through this clinic we are giving drivers the tools they need to save money and reduce the impact of vehicles on the environment," Lang said.

The Vehicle Emissions Clinic will take place in Whitehorse Sept. 20 and 21 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Canadian Tire parking lot, 18 Chilkoot Way. For more information, contact the Energy Solutions Centre at (867) 393-7063 or toll free from the communities 1-800-667-5811 ext. 7063.
