Yukon Releases Activity Report Related To Administration Of ATIPP Act
WHITEHORSE - The Government of Yukon has announced the release of the Activity Report on the Administration of the Access to Information and Protection of Privacy (ATIPP) Act for the period of April 1, 2005 to March 31, 2006.
"This document provides highlights of recent ATIPP activity within the Government of Yukon and is a starting point for future comparisons," Judy Pelchat, manager of Corporate Information Management at the Department of Highways and Public Works, said.
This report presents numbers of formal ATIPP requests that were received and processed in the ATIPP Office from April 1, 2005 to March 31, 2006. Since July 1, 1996 the ATIPP Act has applied to Yukon government departments as well as boards, commissions, foundations, corporations or other similar agencies that are deemed to be agents of the Yukon government.
"This ATIPP activity data shows that Yukon government employees respond to information requests in an open, fair, timely, complete and accurate manner," Pelchat added.
The ATIPP Office is part of the Information and Communications Technology branch of the Department of Highways and Public Works. The Office provides a single point of contact for members of the public who wish to formally apply for access to information held by public bodies. Pelchat holds the position of "records manager" under the ATIPP Act and, as such, has responsibility for central administration and coordination of the ATIPP Act across the Yukon government.
This report does not reflect the large number of informal requests for information that individuals may have made by contacting departments directly. "We are working on improvements to make it even easier for the public to contact public bodies directly to obtain records that are in their custody and control," Pelchat said.
