Scholarships

BC Hydro scholarships are awarded to select B.C. students who are leaders and role models in their schools and communities. We look to support B.C. students who demonstrate a balanced lifestyle and commitment to a post-secondary education.

BC Hydro Scholarships Administered by Post-Secondary Institutions

BC Hydro has a number of student awards administered directly by post secondary institutions and associations. Please visit the following post secondary institutions and association websites for scholarships given by BC Hydro.

British Columbia Institute of Technology

  • One award: Civil Engineering Technologist Diploma
  • One award: Mechanical Engineering Technologist Diploma
  • Three awards: Electrical Technologist Diploma

Kwantlen University College

  • Two awards: Automotive Service Technicians
  • Two awards: Millwrights/Industrial Mechanics
  • Four awards: Environmental Protection Technologists

Royal Roads University

  • Three awards: Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science

University of Northern British Columbia

  • Three awards: Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Studies with a Minor in Global Environmental Change

Northern Lights College, Fort St. John Campus

  • One award: Diploma in Land and Resource Management with an Environmental Policy Elective

BC Hydro Engineering Scholarships

  • Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of B.C – APEGBC: Administers 15 engineering scholarships on behalf of BC Hydro.

Aboriginal Scholarships

BC Hydro is accepting applications for aboriginal scholarships between January 28 and April 1, 2008.

Please note that scholarships cannot be deferred from one year to the next and previous recipients of any BC Hydro scholarship will not be eligible.

  • Eight $1,500 aboriginal scholarships, available to individuals who are status/non status Indians, Inuit or Métis and are residents of B.C. who plan to enrol in a full-time public post-secondary institution in Canada, in any field of study.
  • One $2,000 Randy Brant Memorial scholarship based on a combination of academic achievement and outstanding community involvement. No essay is required.

Coordinator of Occupational Safety and Health Scholarship

BC Hydro will award a scholarship to a resident of Hudson's Hope or an Aboriginal person of Hudson's Hope and the surrounding areas interested in pursuing the two-year Occupational Health and Safety diploma offered at the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT). Upon graduation from the program, BC Hydro may employ the candidate as a Coordinator of Occupational Safety and Health (COSH) Trainee.

Power Pioneer Youth Community Service Awards

  • Eighteen $500 awards
  • Open to B.C. students attending school full-time, who are maintaining a passing grade, and who are 18 years of age and under.
  • Candidates must have made outstanding contributions in their community for a considerable amount of time.
  • Alternatively, the individual must have initiated, organized and contributed significantly to a one-time project.
