Kids Recreation Fund - Guidelines and Application Form ( 5 KB)

The purpose of the Kids Recreation Fund (KRF) is to assist children and youth who are unable to actively participate in organized recreation programs because of financial hardship.
What is KRF?
The KRF is a special fund under the Youth Investment Fund, which helps parents with the cost of registration fees and/or special clothing, supplies and equipment, so their children can participate in organized recreational activities.
Who is eligible for the KRF?
Children and youth (aged 0 to 19 years) from families whose family net income is under $30,000 per year (as per Revenue Canada Income Tax return) or Children and youth who, due to special family circumstances (such as recent financial hardship, family illness, large family size, family crisis) are unable to participate in organized recreation activities.
Note: Foster parents of children in care should contact family and Children's Services for funds for recreation activities.
What kinds of activities are eligible?
Funds may be provided to help with the cost of participating in an organized sport, recreation, arts, cultural or social activity.
What does KRF pay for?
KRF pays some or all of the cost of registration fees for the activity. It may also be able to provide or help with the cost of special clothing, supplies or equipment needed for the activity. The amount available under the KRF is up to $200 per child, per activity, to a maximum of $300 per year.
Funds are paid to the organization providing the activity. Where possible, special clothing, supplies and equipment must be returned to the organization providing the activity.
How can I donate to the fund?
The KRF continually finds that it has more requests than it does money. If you would like to donate financially or otherwise, please call 668-4236 or 667-5367. The opportunities for supporting this program are as limitless as the range of activities offered throughout the Yukon.
How can families apply for the KRF?
Please use the Application Form to apply. Verification of your family net income or other family circumstances may be required.
Applications may be submitted at any time and applicants will be informed of the decision as soon as possible. Even though an applicant meets the criteria, the application may be denied because another applicant took priority or a limitation on funds. Each application is judged on its own merit.
