Court clerks act as the administrative arm to the judiciary at all levels of court. They follow up on court decisions, rulings and orders by reviewing and issuing court documents, and by forwarding documents or information to people and organizations involved in court cases, third parties and the public. Court clerks are generally the main source of information for procedural matters for all criminal offences and for some civil cases. They provide information on the status of files that involve criminal offences, federal offences, motor vehicle and other territorial offences. The information they may release can include court dates, dispositions, conditions imposed and publication bans. Court clerks are located in Whitehorse, Dawson City and Watson Lake. Office hours are from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday to Friday in Whitehorse, and 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Monday to Friday in Dawson City and Watson Lake.
The Trial Coordinator deals with matters related to the planning, coordinating and scheduling of a wide variety of types of trials, hearings and applications for both the Yukon Supreme and Territorial Courts. Most requests that require time in court must be arranged through the Trial Coordinator. As a Justice of the Peace, the Trial Coordinator exercises certain administrative powers.
