Young Entrepreneur Awards

Business Development Bank of Canada (BDC)

Every year, the Business Development Bank of Canada (BDC) holds the Young Entrepreneur Awards (YEA) to highlight Canada's best and brightest young entrepreneurs and to recognize their innovative spirit and business acumen. There is one winning business per province and territory for a total of 13 awards. In addition, the YEA winners may be eligible for the EDC Export Excellence Award.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible, you must meet the following criteria:

  • be a Canadian citizen;
  • be between 19 and 35 years old on December of the current year;
  • have at least two years experience as an entrepreneur.

  • Young entrepreneurs can nominate themselves.
  • Application forms can be picked up at the BDC branch nearest you, or by calling toll-free 1-877-BDC-BANX (1-877-232-2269). Please visit the BDC's Web site for a list of branches.

How the winners are selected?

The winners are selected by a panel of:

  • business people;
  • entrepreneurs;
  • members of Chambers of Commerce; and
  • BDC representatives.

The following selection criteria apply to all nominees:

  • the originality of the business concept;
  • its success;
  • growth potential; and
  • social involvement.

The panel also considers:

  • the entrepreneur's age when the business was started; and
  • any special challenges that had to be overcome.
