Owners or masters of foreign vessels wishing to fish in Canadian fisheries waters.

Summary

The Fisheries Act governs the management of fisheries resources and habitats and sets out the rules and penalties for day-to-day conservation and management.

The Foreign Vessel Fishing Regulations state the rules for fishing in Canadian fisheries waters (on both the Atlantic and Pacific coasts) by foreign vessels. The Regulations explain the following:

Atlantic Coast Pacific Coast
Close time (dates when fishing is not permitted)
Swordfish size limits
Tuna size limits
Incidental catch limits (fish or other animals caught as a result of fishing for another type of species)
Closed areas and seasons
Close time
Incidental catch limits
Gear restrictions
