Growing, selling or processing of grains, oilseeds and pulses in Canada.
The Guide is reviewed and revised to include changes to grade specifications and tolerance levels recommended by the Western and Eastern grain standards committees and to update definitions and grading procedures. The Guide will be updated whenever changes occur.
The Guide's Glossary provides explanations of grading factors, procedures and technical terms.
The Web version of the Official Grain Grading Guide is a document controlled under ISO provisions. However, printed copies from the Web cannot be controlled in such a manner so it is wise to consult the Web site for regular updates.
Unless a grain variety has been registered by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA), it is eligible only for the lowest Canada Grain Act grade. For a list of registered varieties and other information related to the registration of plants in Canada, visit the Web site of the Variety Registration Office of the Plant Production Division (of the Canada Food Inspection Agency). It is designed to provide the seed industry, and Canada's agri-food sector in general, with the most up-to-date information on the registration status of plant varieties in Canada.
