How to Apply for Council Membership

Any woman in Nova Scotia may apply to serve on the Advisory Council on the Status of Women, as well as other provincial agencies, boards and commissions (ABCs). The Executive Council Office recruits members to these entities in the spring and fall through an advertisement in provincial newspapers. The Advisory Council strongly encourages applications from qualified women in all their diversity.

Council members are appointed by the Minister responsible for the Nova Scotia Advisory Council on the Status of Women Act. All appointments are approved and confirmed by the Standing Committee on Human Resources.

Travel and accommodation expenses are paid for members to attend five Council meetings each year. Members also receive a $50 honorarium per meeting. Most meetings are held at the Council offices in Halifax; one meeting per year usually takes place outside Metro Halifax.
