September 2006This brief makes recommendations to foster the employability of women with disabilities, with a view to improving their economic security and ensuring that Canada benefits from their contributions. The brief reviews persuasive evidence for the continued economic and labour market difficulties confronting women with disabilities, and makes recommendations.

Women with Disabilities
(available in PDF format)April, 2006Nova Scotia has the highest proportion of persons living with a disability among all the provinces with one in five women and men over the age of 15 reporting some type of disability or chronic health condition in 2001. As the overall disability rate increases substantially with age, and, as the majority of seniors (especially older seniors) are women, older women are disproportionately affected by disability.

The report also provides an overview of the economic situations of diverse groups of women.
