Monies For Tier 1 Community Development Disbursed

WHITEHORSE - Eight Yukon communities will share in $264,365 worth of Community Development Fund Tier 1 funding.

"This funding will deliver assistance to 21 great projects that will help their communities prepare for the busy summer ahead," Economic Development Minister Jim Kenyon said. "From research to rodeo, the Community Development Fund money boosts projects both new and ongoing."

The Yukon Historical and Museums Association received $10,700 to conduct a research symposium that will provide amateur northern historians and researchers with an opportunity to share their work and observe the work of others.

"Discovering Northern Gold is an opportunity to bring to light the many hidden research projects while fostering an appreciation and a better understanding of our unique history," Rebecca Jansen, executive director of Yukon Historical and Museums Association, said.

A $10,000 Community Development Fund contribution was also made to the Yukoner's Community Broadcast Society for the development of a strategic plan.

"Everyone at the Yukoner's Community Broadcast Society is excited about receiving this grant," society president Leonard Alexander said. "Now we can carry on with our project of getting community TV back here on the air."

Tier 1 funding is made available for applications up to $20,000.
