Community Development Fund Awards Funding To Twelve Projects

WHITEHORSE – Twelve community projects in seven Yukon communities have been awarded $157,345 of Community Development Fund Tier 1 funding.

"This funding will deliver support to 12 important community projects," Economic Development Minister Jim Kenyon said. "These projects supported by the Community Development Fund create economic and social benefits around Yukon."

In support of the Outdoor Science Camp for Girls, the North Yukon Community Steward received $13,226 to develop a credited outdoor science program for Old Crow youth.

"The Outdoor Science Camp for Girls is a tremendous opportunity for the community of Old Crow," North Yukon Community Steward Jennifer Smith said. "This project combines an innovative youth program with the development of a long-term community based ecological monitoring project."

A $13,446 Community Development Fund contribution was also made to the Klondyke Goldpanning Association for the purchase of special goldpanning troughs.

"We are very excited about receiving this support by the Community Development Fund," Klondyke Goldpanning Association chairperson Brenda Caley said. "These special units will allow Dawson to host the 2007 World Goldpanning Championships and future gold panning events."

Tier 1 funding is made available for applications up to $20,000.
