Plan To Be Developed For Housing Needs In Yukon

WHITEHORSE - Premier Dennis Fentie is pleased to learn that the Government of Canada will be making an investment in post-secondary education infrastructure, public transit, and affordable housing needs in the North.

"We are happy to see that the federal government is moving quickly to support initiatives of great importance to all Yukoners," Fentie said.

Of note in the anticipated federal initiatives are funding trusts to address affordable housing needs in Yukon. Premier Fentie has indicated that he will be discussing these matters with Yukon First Nation Chiefs and the Council for Yukon First Nations at a future Yukon Forum.

"The issues surrounding housing for Yukoners, and in particular Yukon First Nation citizens, are matters that need to be carefully considered," Fentie said. "We need to develop a 'made-in-Yukon' investment plan to ensure that the greatest possible benefits accrue to Yukoners."

The federal funding initiatives are expected to be included in the forthcoming federal budget on May 2.
