Time For “Action" In Youth Film Trailer Competition

WHITEHORSE - The Yukon International Film Festival is seeking Yukon youth to demonstrate their cinematic talents and participate in the festival's Youth Trailer Competition.

The Yukon International Film Festival (YIFF) Youth Trailer Competition calls for film trailers or previews of between 60 and 90 seconds in length that both represent the territory as a prime film location and welcome local, national and international guests to the festival.

"We are excited to invite young adults to create festival trailers that celebrate the territory's unique essence and culture," Economic Development Minister Jim Kenyon said. "This festival will create a stage that allows the immense energy and creativity of our youth to shine before key members of the national and international film community."

All Yukon youth between 15 and 30 years of age are eligible to enter and Yukon residents attending school outside the territory are also encouraged to apply. The submission deadline is May 15.

"A formal selection committee will screen all the trailer entries and choose finalists it feels best suit the tone of the festival," Yukon Film & Sound Commissioner Margarita Ramon said. "These trailers will then be posted on the festival website by May 22 and the public will be able to choose the winner."

Trailers can be animated or live action, humorous or serious and must be appropriate for a general audience. Competitors are requested to use royalty-free or original music.

The winning trailer will be announced at the festival's opening ceremony and will be screened at the opening of all films during the festival. The first place entry will receive $1,000, festival passes, and be posted on the festival website.

The Yukon International Film Festival will run from June 21 to 25. It will bring together filmmakers, writers, directors, producers, media, and audiences from around the world to experience films shot on location in the territory by local, national, and international production companies.
