Anash And The Legacy Of The Sun-Rock Supported By Yukon Film Production Fund

WHITEHORSE – The six part television series Anash and the Legacy of the Sun-Rock has received support from the Yukon Film Production Fund.

The Yukon Film & Sound Commission has approved financing based upon a percentage of the dollars spent in the Yukon by the production, to a maximum of $500,000.

"The Yukon government is pleased to assist in the further development of the Yukon film industry," Economic Development Minister Jim Kenyon said. "Anash and the Legacy of the Sun-Rock is a unique blend of animation and live action. It will be shot completely in studio, which will further develop the skills and experience of our local film crews."

Anash and the Legacy of the Sun-Rock is a co-production by Yukon based The Thing With Feathers Productions and Edmonton based Panacea Entertainment.  It is being produced with the support of Aboriginal Peoples Television Network, Knowledge Network, ACCESS/CLT/Book Television, Canadian Television Fund, Telefilm Canada, Yukon Film Production Fund, Alberta Film Development Fund, Shaw Rocket Fund, Independent Production Fund, Bell New Media Fund and the Canadian Film or Video Production Tax Credit Program.

"This series is an opportunity to relate stories of fantasy and magic that convey themes of environmental concern, peace, and the importance of Aboriginal cultural values," Carol Geddes, Producer/Writer/Director of The Thing With Feathers Productions, said. "We are excited about the chance to reflect a part of Tlingit history that has, until now, been unknown to most people."

Based in Teslin, Carol Geddes has written, produced and directed several films including the animation film Two Winters: Tales From Above the Earth, which garnered eight national and international awards.

"We are pleased to find high calibre professional film personnel in the Yukon with whom we can produce this series," Josh Miller, Executive Producer of Edmonton based Panacea Entertainment, said. "We are confident that Anash and the Legacy of the Sun-Rock will be a unique and exciting series."

Production of the series is scheduled to begin in Whitehorse in Fall 2006. For more information on the Yukon Film Production Fund visit the Yukon Film & Sound Commission website: http://www.reelyukon.com/
