Sexual Assualt Prevention Month Poster Contest Winner Announced

WHITEHORSE - Eli Pasquali, an 18 year-old freelance photographer, designed the winning poster in a contest run by the Women's Directorate, as part of Sexual Assault Prevention Month.

A call for submissions received nine responses that each uniquely addressed the role that young men can play to prevent sexual assault.

"Young men play a vital role in the prevention of sexual assault," Elaine Taylor, minister responsible for the Women"s Directorate, said. "This poster contest allowed for some of the territory's young people to create posters and to develop messages that would speak to their peers."

The submissions were adjudicated by a panel of five judges including Calvin Morberg, a young Yukon artist; Matthew Cardinal, from the Skookum Jim Friendship Centre; Craig Dempsey, from the Victim Services/Family Violence Prevention Unit of the Justice department; and two staff members from the Women's Directorate.

All submissions will be on display at the Elijah Smith Building and at the Whitehorse General Hospital, during the last two weeks of May, as part of the Victoria Faulkner Women's Centre public education activities during Sexual Assault Prevention Month.

Victoria Faulkner Women's Centre is working with Les EssentiElles and the Women's Directorate and other women's groups to hold a number of events and public education initiatives throughout the month of May. Information on public sessions will be announced on community boards and in the "Coming Events" sections of local newspapers.

The poster will be unveiled on Wed., May 17 at 10:30 a.m. in the foyer of the Elijah Smith Building on Main Street in Whitehorse. Minister Taylor will be speaking and Eli Pasquali will be in attendance.
