Yukon International Film Festival “Teaming” With Talent

WHITEHORSE - The Yukon International Film Festival (YIFF) will bring an international flavour to Whitehorse film screens this June 21 to 25 with an exciting array of films, directors, producers, and filmmakers from China, Australia, Ireland and beyond, showcasing new works alongside their Canadian counterparts.

At the helm of the festival are the Yukon Film and Sound Commission's Film Commissioner Margarita Ramon and Festival Director, Nancy Lewis-de Graff.

"The international scope of this festival will focus the eyes of the film world on Yukon, our unparalleled locations and our flourishing film industry," Economic Development Minister Jim Kenyon said. "We are equally pleased to host and premiere films and filmmakers from around the world and are delighted to have the opportunity to demonstrate our warm hospitality, unique culture and northern stories."

"We have assembled a very talented team of local organizers and film industry professionals to create an independent film festival as good as any in the world," Yukon Film and Sound Commissioner Margarita Ramon said. "From June 21 to 25, Whitehorse will become an epicentre of independent film and most importantly, Yukon audiences will be able to experience an incredible line-up of local, national, and international films."

Local organizers Jessica Hall, Amanda Leslie, Celia McBride and David Prodan have been working alongside Nancy Lewis-de Graff since the New Year to select the films and coordinate media, industry, and volunteer recruitment. Tanya Gadsby has just started as Production Assistant for the festival team.

National and international media from outlets such as the Hollywood Reporter, DOSE Magazine, Biography Channel, National Post and Maclean’s magazine, will attend and report on the festival.

The Yukon International Film Festival will be held June 21 to 25, 2006 at the Westmark Klondike Inn, the Yukon Arts Centre and the Beringia Interpretive Centre. A complete schedule of films and participating industry members will be unveiled in the coming weeks.
