Aliant Stories on the Phone

For Children's stories over the telephone call 1-888-280-7070. Five minute stories in English or French which are changed regularly. Sponsored by Aliant, Friends of the Confederation Centre Public Library and the P.E.I. Provincial Library Service.

  • Tai chi n' Technology (TNT) - a dynamite program! - Every Wednesday morning from 9:15- 10:30 am, come to 30 minutes of slow graceful exercises and 45 minute basic Internet instruction to access health resources more efficiently. This program is intended for newly diagnosed cancer patients, cancer patients undergoing treatments and cancer survivors. Funded in part by the Canadian Cancer Society - PEI Division.   • Wednesday February 13, 1-2 pm - "Tracing your Family Roots on PEI." A presentation by Mr. George Sanborn. All are welcome.

Confederation Centre Public Library

Opening the Door to Renewable Energy - Wednesday March 5th, 2008 at 7:00 pm (storm date of March 12th). The ECO-PEI Energy Project will be discussing how residential homes (new and existing) can incorporate renewable energy technologies to meet their energy needs. The presentation will examine key types of renewable energy (such as solar-thermal, geo-thermal) and their accompanying technologies for home use. The costs and savings associated with these technologies will also be discussed.

Stories on the Bus - On occasional Friday, mornings , a Confederation Centre Public Library staff member will ride one of the Charlottetown Transit buses and read to any children on board who would like a story. The bus leaves at 10:00 a.m. from the Confederation Centre and returns to the Charlottetown Confederation Centre around 11:00. Please contact the Children's Loft at 368-4648 for the schedule.

PUBLIC ACCESS COMPUTERS There are public access computers in the Children's Loft. A computer may be booked for 1 hour per day. For terminals connected to the Internet, parents must sign an Internet Acceptable Use Policy Form for each child before they can use the computers. Parents must register each child in person (forms cannot be taken home to be signed). There are several children's CD-ROM programs available. They must be signed out and used in the Children's Library only. You may call ahead to book at 368-4648. Adults must remain with children under the age of 6, who use a public access computer.

BOARD GAMES There are board games available that can be used in-house as well as being signed out. Games include: Chess, Chinese checkers, Scrabble for juniors, Monopoly, Sorry, Battleship, Mastermind and others.
There is a television with a VCR available for children to watch videos for which the library has Public Performance Rights. Please inquire with the Children's Library Staff.

  • Montague Library Friendship Book Club - Third Wednesday of the month, at 10:30 a. m. Designed for special need adults. Promoters: Cathy Anderson and Pam Stewart. Call the library for more information.
  • Junior Book Club (English) - First Wednesday of the month. Beginning February 6, at 5:00 - 6:00 p.m. Bring a favourite English junior fiction or non-fiction book and tell us about it. You can share your own experience of interesting themes and exchange ideas. Learn to use the Library Catalogue to search library materials. Grade 6 - 9 children are welcome. Mentors: Inabelle Peardon and Melissa Mullen.
  • Montague Library Knitting Club - Third Wednesday of the month. Beginning March 19 at 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Join us to share ideas, receive basic instructions and browse through the library’s collection of knitting books. Adults and children age 12 and up are welcome. Call the library for pre-registration. Mentor: Evelyne Serror.

  • Stratford Winter Carnival activities
    • Saturday March 1st, 2:30- 4:30 p.m. - enter a Scrabble tournament at the Stratford Public Library and win prizes for the top points. Drop in or pre register at 569-7441 during library hours. All ages welcome.
    • February 27 - March 1 - use your library card and fill out a ballot to win a Snowman Decorating Kit.
