Assessment Notice Every property owner in Nova Scotia is mailed an assessment notice, normally in January. Those property owners whose assessments increased by more than three percent received a proposed assessment notice in the summer, five - six months before they receive their formal one. Making proposed assessment values available to property owners provided an opportunity for us to discuss your assessment with you. In many cases this saves property owners the time and effort required to file a formal assessment appeal. The review process for assessment notices mailed in January requires an appeal be filed in order for adjustments to be considered for this assessment year. Without an appeal, the results of a review could only be applied to the next assessment year. Below is are samples of the proposed and formal 2007 Notices of Assessment. If you have additional questions, please call your Regional Assessment Office.
