Nominations open for community crime prevention awards

Edmonton... Is there a crime fighter in your community that deserves recognition? Then nominate them for an Alberta crime prevention award.

The Alberta government is seeking nominations for individuals or groups who help make communities safer by:

Categories include youth, individuals, organizations, businesses, community groups, media organizations, and police officers.

"Crime prevention is truly a community effort. It cannot be seen as the sole responsibility of police," said Fred Lindsay, Solicitor General and Minister of Public Security. "Every citizen has a role to play in helping to keep their neighbourhoods safe and secure. These crime prevention awards recognize those outstanding individuals and groups, who continue to make Alberta the best place to live, work and raise a family."

Recipients will be selected by a committee comprised of representatives from Alberta Solicitor General and Public Security, community crime prevention agencies, and Alberta police services. A ceremony to recognize the award recipients will be held in May in Calgary.

The deadline for the 2007 crime prevention award nominations is February 23. For more information about the awards and how to submit a nomination, visit www.crimeprevention.gov.ab.ca.
