With Your Eyes Facing the Heavens and Your Feet Solidly on the Ground
Ascend Mont Mégantic, the highest summit that is accessible by car in Québec (1100 metres)(shuttle service available during high season). The view is truly magnificent! You will see the White Mountains of New Hampshire and Maine, and the Green Mountains of Vermont. You will also discover an unusual geological formation: a granite mountain surrounded by a valley of gabbro and adorned with a syenite crown.
The Star Attraction
Explore the Parc national du Mont-Mégantic ASTROLab, an astronomy interpretation centre dedicated to the public. It is divided into three sections: the De l'oeil nu au spectre invisible room dedicated to the interpretation of the history of astronomy, the COSMOLab-Velan room, which focuses on the history of the Cosmos, and the high definition multimedia room where the Cosmic Rhythms multimedia performance
is presented.
To the Rhythms of the Universe
Join us for a voyage to the edge of the Universe with our colourful show, Cosmic Rhythms. We'll leave Mont Mégantic and travel all the way to the Big Bang. Then we will present the history of the universe in terms of one cosmic calendar year. You'll never see the universe in the same way again.
Mountain Outing
Why not embark on an outing on the close to 70 km of hiking, skiing or snowshoeing trails, and experience the transition between the hardwood forest at 600 m altitude and the conifer forest that reaches summits over 1,000 m in altitude? At the top of Mont Mégantic, you will find two observatories, and at the summit of Mont Saint-Joseph, a sanctuary and a pilgrimage site around a century-old, recently restored chapel.
Pluton sur Terre
The Pluton sur Terre room, located in the park's Visitors Centre, presents the park's various natural resources and explains its unusual geological formation. Is Mont Mégantic the result of a crushing of the earth crust like an Appalachian structure, or did it rise up out of the ground like a Monteregian structure? Come discover the mountain's secrets with the help of this interactive exhibit.
