Summary
One of the purposes of the Fisheries Act is to protect fish and marine organisms from the discharge of harmful substances. The Petroleum Refinery Liquid Effluent Regulations and guidelines control limits on the amount of oil and grease, phenols, sulfide, ammonia nitrogen and total suspended matter that can be contained in a refinery effluent, along with pH limits.Products affected
Reporting is required for oil refineries; the character of products is not controlled.
Requirements
Limits are specified for the amount of oil and grease, phenols, sulfide, ammonia nitrogen and total suspended matter, along with pH limits. The limits are related to plant capacity. There are also reporting requirements.
