![](/web/20080214030638im_/http://www.for.gov.bc.ca/his/adam/adam.gif) ADAM (Authority Delegation and
Management) is a security application that is used to manage access to other
Ministry of Forests & Range Java Web applications. ADAM is, itself, a Java Web
application.
ADAM is part of the WebADE 4.x, and as such must be used for access
management by applications as they migrate to WebADE 4.x.
ADAM presents some noticeable improvements to the way in which application
access is requested and received:
- Easy and Timely Access Granting
- Easy and Timely Access Granting
Application access granting is streamlined. One no longer needs to submit
multiple forms (e.g. one for application role and another for client number
access) and wait for the generated emails to be actioned by the third party.
Access through ADAM is immediate.
- No More Multiple BCeID Userids
- No More Multiple BCeID Userids
With the ability to have detailed security, i.e. connect a user to a role
for an organization, there is no need for consultants on contract with
Industry companies to have a BCeID userid for each company on whose behalf
they do business.
- Delegation of Responsibility
- Delegation of Responsibility
The Ministry will have the opportunity to allow Industry clients to manage
their own users’ application access by delegating the granting capability
out to the companies. This reduces the Ministry’s burden for ensuring a user
request for access is appropriate, and the associated liability that comes
with making that determination.
- Seeing Who Has Access
- Seeing Who Has Access
ADAM can be used to see who has been authorized to use applications, for
what organization, and in what role. A future enhancement to ADAM will see
the inclusion of reports.
