Premiers, Governor To Discuss Pipelines And Railroads

WHITEHORSE - Premier Dennis Fentie is meeting with Alberta Premier Ralph Klein, British Columbia Minister of State for Intergovernmental Relations John van Dongen and Alaska Governor Frank Murkowski at the Alaska Canada Regional Summit in Anchorage, Alaska next week.

Discussions will include updates on the Alaska Highway Pipeline Project and the Alaska-Canada Rail Link Feasibility Study.

Economic Development Minister Jim Kenyon and Kaska Tribal Council representative David Porter, both of whom are members of the Alaska-Canada Rail Link Feasibility Study Advisory Committee, will also be in attendance.

"My colleagues and I agree that the people from all our regions and those from the North in particular stand to benefit from these projects," Fentie said. "I am looking forward to our meetings and furthering our joint priorities."

This meeting follows an initial gathering in Vancouver last October where the western premiers and the governor agreed that the Alaska Highway Pipeline Project is critically important to the prosperity and energy security of both Canada and the United States.

The leaders agreed to work together to advance the project.
