4,000 NEW SPACES INCREASE ACCESS ON ISLAND

PARKSVILLE — Five post-secondary institutions on Vancouver Island will receive funding for 4,000 new student spaces by 2010, Premier Gordon Campbell announced today during a speech to the Association of Vancouver Island and Coastal Communities.

FINAL DEAL REACHED TO ACQUIRE AND PRESERVE BURNS BOG

MORE PEOPLE MOVING TO B.C. FOR FIRST TIME IN SIX YEARS

VANCOUVER — B.C. finished 2003 with a net inflow of nearly 2,100 people from other provinces, the first time in six years that more people are moving to B.C. from other provinces than are leaving, Premier Gordon Campbell said today.

NEW UNIVERSITY TO INCREASE STUDENT SPACES AND PROGRAMS
Premier Gordon Campbell announces that the University College of the Cariboo will become a new special purpose university, bringing 3,000 new student spaces to the Thompson-Cariboo region.

KAMLOOPS — The University College of the Cariboo will assume responsibility for the Open University and Open College to form a new special purpose university that will increase student spaces in the region by 3,000 and expand a variety of applied learning programs, Premier Gordon Campbell announced today.

NEW UBC OKANAGAN TO HELP ADD 5,500 STUDENT SPACES

KELOWNA — Government will add 5,500 new spaces for post-secondary students in the Okanagan by 2010 by establishing two new institutions in the region: a new University of British Columbia, Okanagan, and a bigger, better Okanagan College that will expand university transfer, trades and other applied training options.

Premier Gordon Campbell unveils a $70 million plan to bring a new Simon Fraser University campus to Surrey. SFU will see an additional 3,000 seats by 2010, part of the government's commitment to increase post-secondary spaces by up to 25,000 by 2010.
