PROVINCE SUPPORTS $25 MILLION GEOSCIENCE PROJECT

VANCOUVER — The Province will seek legislative approval for a $25 million grant to the BC and Yukon Chamber of Mines for a new B.C. centre for geoscience, Premier Gordon Campbell announced today.

PREMIER ANNOUNCES 215 MORE RCMP OFFICERS TO FIGHT CRIME

VANCOUVER — The Province will add 215 RCMP officers in B.C. communities this year as part of a crime-fighting strategy that will see an additional $122 million invested in policing, corrections and courts over the next three years, Premier Gordon Campbell announced today at the Provincial Congress of B.C.

PUBLIC SAFETY TASK FORCE ANNOUNCED

VANCOUVER — Representatives from all three levels of government and First Nations communities will form a Task Force on Public Safety to offer recommendations on how all levels of government can work together to create safer communities through legislative improvements and investments in crime prevention and policing, Premier Gordon Campbell announced today.

Premier Gordon Campbell and Advanced Education Minister Ida Chong recognize the recipients of the 2004 Premier's Excellence Awards, each of whom receive a medal and a $5,000 scholarship to study at a B.C. university or college.

PROVINCE PLANS $50-MILLION INCREASE TO FOREST TRUST
Premier Gordon Campbell joined Truck Loggers Association president Mike Hamilton at the TLA convention, where he announced the Province intends to increase the Forestry Revitalization Trust Fund by $50 million.

VANCOUVER — The Province intends to introduce legislation in February that will increase the Forestry Revitalization Trust Fund by $50 million to help workers and contractors pursue new opportunities and participate in building a more competitive B.C. forest industry, Premier Gordon Campbell announced today at the annual convention of the Truck Loggers Association.
