PREMIER OPENS BC EXPERIENCE

Premier Gordon Campbell officially opened 'BC Experience' a high tech, interactive facility in Victoria's Crystal Garden that celebrates the history, cultures, people, and geography of our province. The event took place on June 26, 2006 -- 81 years to the day the building was originally opened.

LEGION WEEK IN B.C. TO HONOUR CANADIAN VETS

VICTORIA — The Province is paying tribute to the work of The Royal Canadian Legion in B.C. by proclaiming June 25 to 30, 2006 — the six-day period preceding Canada Day — as Legion Week. B.C. is the second province in Canada, after Ontario, to so honour the veterans' organization.

PROVINCE BACKS 2008 NORTH AMERICAN INDIGENOUS GAMES

DUNCAN — The Province of British Columbia will contribute $3.5 million to the 2008 North American Indigenous Games (NAIG) to support Aboriginal amateur sport and sport tourism, Premier Gordon Campbell announced today.

PREMIER ANNOUNCES SURREY OUTPATIENT HOSPITAL LOCATION

SURREY — Premier Gordon Campbell today announced that the Green Timbers site in Surrey will be home to the new 148,000-square foot Surrey Outpatient Hospital as part of the Province's plans to improve access to health care and ease congestion at Surrey Memorial Hospital (SMH).

PREMIER HELPS CELEBRATE NATIONAL ABORIGINAL DAY
Premier Gordon Campbell celebrated the 10th annual National Aboriginal Day in Vancouver, presenting a commemorative certificate to members of the Haisla First Nation at a ceremony celebrating the repatriation of a Haisla totem pole that had been in Sweden since 1929.

VANCOUVER — A ceremony to celebrate the return of a Haisla Nation totem pole on the 10th anniversary of National Aboriginal Day recognizes the enduring strength and resurgence of Aboriginal culture in British Columbia, Premier Gordon Campbell said today.

PREMIER AND GOVERNOR CALL FOR PASSPORT REQUIREMENT DELAY
At the first ever high level dialogue between the governments of B.C. and Washington, Governor Chris Gregoire and Premier Gordon Campbell signed a joint letter to the U.S. President and the Canadian Prime Minister calling for a delay in the proposed passport requirements for people crossing the Canada-U.S. Border.

VANCOUVER — The governments of British Columbia and Washington have joined together in a joint letter to the President of the United States and the Prime Minister of Canada to call for a delay to the proposed passport requirements for re-entry into the United States.

PROVINCE HELPS 411 SENIORS CENTRE SECURE PERMANENT HOME
Premier Gordon Campbell announced the Province is providing $4.2 million to allow the 411 Seniors Centre Society to purchase the building the centre has occupied for over 30 years.

VANCOUVER — The 411 Seniors Centre Society can now purchase the heritage building they've occupied for 35 years at 411 Dunsmuir Street, thanks to $4.2 million from the provincial government, Premier Gordon Campbell announced today.

PREMIER PRESENTS CREATIVE ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS
Premier Gordon Campbell presented the 2006 B.C. Creative Achievement Awards to six B.C. designers and artists, including Chris Goldammer of Kelowna who has won international awards for his custom motorcycle designs.

MILESTONE REACHED IN BENNETT BRIDGE CONSTRUCTION
Premier Gordon Campbell and former Premier Bill Bennett joined local MLAs Sindi Hawkins and Al Horning, Transportation Minister Kevin Falcon, and workers from the William R. Bennett Bridge project at the launch of the first 5,000 tonne pontoon that will anchor the new bridge, scheduled to open in the summer of 2008.

KELOWNA — The construction of the new William R. Bennett Bridge reached another milestone today with the floating and pre-positioning of the first 5,000-tonne pontoon that will anchor the new link across Okanagan Lake.
