What is 4-H? The Basics...


4-H IS...

- A nation wide program dedicated to the development of young people to help them become responsible members of society.
- For rural young people between the ages of 9 to 21 by January 1st.
- For adults who wish to give leadership.
- Belonging to a club in your local community.
- Having fun at regular get-togethers with other 4-H'ers.
- Making new friends.
- Taking part in club and community activities, sports and games, picnics and campouts, tours and exchanges.
- Learning how to organize and carry out a meeting.
- Taking part in our public speaking program.
- Working on a project which you chose yourself --- there is lots of choice for your project and you can take on more than one.

Through our motto "Learn To Do By Doing", 4-H aims to help young people:

- Acquire leadership skills & entrepreneurial skills.

The Canadian 4-H emblem is the clover seen here. The official 4-H colors are green and white, green for agriculture and white for purity.

TEAM 4-H...

There are close to 2,400 members and 100 clubs in Nova Scotia. More than 80 countries worldwide have 4-H clubs.

4-H leaders are volunteers. Some friends of 4-H are: civic and business groups, industry and the Nova Scotia Department of Agriculture (NSDA). NSDA administers the 4-H program in conjunction with the NS 4-H Council. For more information on how to become a 4-H'er contact a NSDA office in Nova Scotia.
