Provincial Volunteer Awards

volunteersEach year, communities all across Canada celebrate National Volunteer Week. National Volunteer Week 2007 takes place from April 15th to April 21st. The primary purpose of this specially designated week is to thank and honour people who donate their time to help others by supporting the causes in which they believe. Volunteer Week also serves to reinforce the human values that volunteering represents and increase awareness of the vital importance of volunteerism to our communities.

Recreation Nova Scotia promotes volunteerism by encouraging Nova Scotian communities to conduct Volunteer Week activities and by emphasizing the recognition of volunteers through:

  1. Increasing awareness of volunteers and volunteer programs.
  2. Recognizing and thanking those who volunteer.
  3. Encouraging more people to volunteer.
  4. Making available volunteer recognition resources to schools, health-related, organizations and institutions, non-profit groups and agencies, and municipalities in order that volunteer contributions are recognized and appreciated.
  5. Encouraging all non-profit, volunteer organizations to honour all their volunteers, during Volunteer Week and throughout the year.
  6. Encouraging incorporated municipalities to designate an individual who will represent all volunteers in the community for recognition on Volunteer Awards Day.
  7. Recognizing one youth as Volunteer Youth of the Year.
  8. Recognizing a Model Volunteer Community of the Year.
  9. Recognizing businesses for their contribution to the voluntary sector with the Building Healthier Future Corporate Award.
  10. Recognize a family with the Volunteer Family of the Year Award.
