Outdoor Activities - Winter

Did you know that each year Vallée de la Jacques-Cartier receives over 4.7 m of snow? It also benefits from a micro-climate. This deeply embanked valley has a north-south orientation. It is sheltered from dominant winds and its rocky cliffs capture the sun’s warm rays. Whether on snowshoes (20 km), backcountry skis (55 km) or simply on foot (11 km), you will be charmed by the glittering decors of Parc national de la Jacques-Cartier.

Backcountry skiing, snowshoeing and hiking trails are accessible from La Vallée parking lot (km 74 of Route 175). Backcountry skiing trails are also accessible from Camp Mercier (km 94 of Route 175).

After a few hours of pleasure, take a break in our warming hut at km 2 where trails A and B meet. Those on longer treks can use the facilities (running water, washroom, heated rest area) at the discovery and Visitors Centre, located at km 10.

The winter season starts on December 14, 2007 and ends on March 16, 2008

Snowshoeing

Slip into your snowshoes and come see a nature-sized show! The park presents a network of five trails, for a total of 20 linear kilometres. The L'Éperon trail, (loop C) located 3 kilometres from the entrance, is a must-see in winter, with its magnificent view points on the Vallée de la Jacques Cartier.

Backcountry Skiing

Whether you leave from Camp Mercier or from the De la Vallée sector, the snowy forest and the peaceful environment will charm you. Ski to the sound of the river and admire the bright snow on the peaks surrounding the valley.

Snow Walking

Ski along the Rivière Jacques-Cartier and take in the atmosphere of the river in winter. Discover the snowy valley on a 11-kilometre trail that is maintained by snowmobiles.

Backcountry Skiing and Snowshoeing (long circuits)

Spruce and fir trees bending under the weight of the snow, valleys scattered with icy waterfalls and breathtaking views are the main characters in this magnificent winter show. Nearly 55 kilometres of backcountry ski trails are yours to explore! After a day in the great outdoors, what could be better than curling up next to a warm fireplace in one of our cabins or rustic camps. And we now offer winter camping for those who are less sensitive to the cold. Baggage transport service is also available.
