The PEI Museum and Heritage Foundation is an integral part of the Island's community. Museum and Heritage Prince Edward Island operates the seven provincial museums and heritage sites in Prince Edward Island, providing Islanders and visitors alike with an opportunity to discover our Island heritage and culture. Learn about our fishing, shipbuilding or agricultural heritage or delve deeper into the Acadian culture – whatever your interest, Museum and Heritage Prince Edward Island offers an encounter with the ‘authentic Island story’…

The PEI Museum and Heritage Foundation is a Schedule B Provincial Crown Corporation governed by the Museum Act. It is a registered charitable corporation whose purpose is “to study, collect, preserve, interpret, and protect the human and natural heritage of Prince Edward Island for the use, benefit and enjoyment of the people of the province.”

The organization operates 7 museum and heritage sites through out the province which are open to the public;

  • Elmira Railway Museum
  • Basin Head Fisheries Museum
  • Orwell Corner Historic Village and Agricultural Museum
  • Beaconsfield Historic House
  • Eptek Art & Culture Centre
  • The Acadian Museum of Prince Edward Island
  • Green Park Shipbuilding Museum & Yeo House

In addition to adminstering the seven sites, the Foundation is also responsible for the Provincial Collection of nearly 80,000 artifacts. The Museum provides professional conservation and collection services to outside groups, individuals and organizations. It celebrates Heritage Day the third Monday each February with PEI Museum Heritage Awards presented to individuals or groups in recognition of architecture, writing, architectural preservation, genealogy, and general heritage activities. In addition to publishing The Island Magazine, the Foundation is also active in heritage book publishing with 3 manuscripts in various stages of preparation and publishing at this time.

The Foundation is directed by a Board of Governors appointed by Executive Council.
