Fairness for Military Families Act (Employment Standards and
Health Insurance), 2007

The McGuinty government has introduced the Fairness for Military Families Act (Employment Standards and Health Insurance), 2007 in support of military families to ensure they qualify for all provincially funded health services for which Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP) coverage is required immediately upon taking residence in Ontario.

The legislation will remove the 90-day waiting period for OHIP eligibility and will benefit eligible spouses, same-sex partners and dependant children under 19 of members of the military.

As part of the legislation, the Ministry of Labour is proposing to ensure job protection for Canadian Forces reservists. In addition, the Ministry of Health Promotion will revise the application and guidelines for the Quest for Gold Ontario Athlete Assistance Program.
