Directly, or indirectly, mental illness affects many people in Ontario. It can affect our personal lives, extended families and workplaces. It also affects Ontario's health care system and the provincial economy.

The Ontario government is committed to ensuring that people with serious mental illness can get help when and where they need it. To support its commitment, the government is creating a coordinated and integrated system of mental health services so that people with serious mental illness can easily access a range of consumer-centered services and support as close to home as possible.

This section is designed to provide information about :

• The program and services that are available to those with mental illness and their families; and
• Mental health reform in Ontario - including Brian's Law (Bill 68), "Making It Happen", and the Mental Health Implementation Task Forces;
• The Consent and Capacity Board, an independent body created by the provincial government that conducts hearings under the Mental Health Act, the Health Care Consent Act, the Substitute Decisions Act and the Long Term Care Act.
