Children's Health

The Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care has several programs to support the health of babies and children, from screening newborns for rare diseases to insuring that young children get the dental care they need. Information on these programs can be found through the index at the left.

In addition, the Ministry of Children and Youth Services has many programs aimed at strengthening the health, development, and early learning of Ontario children. Amongst its programs are :

  • Help for Children with Autism–The ministry funds services for families through nine regional service providers located across the province to support children and youth with autism.
  • The Best Start Program–This initiative aims to strengthen healthy development, early learning and child care services during a child's first years.
  • Healthy Babies Healthy Children Program–A prevention/early intervention initiative designed to help children achieve their full potential.
  • Infant Hearing Program–This program identifies babies with hearing impairments and gives them the help they need to develop language.
  • Preschool Speech and Language Program–Identifies children who need help with learning language and provides services to help them.
