Question

If our municipality has completed a Municipal Class EA and/or Provincial EA, is a Federal EA still required?

Answer

All projects funded under COMRIF require a federal environmental assessment (EA) under the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act (CEAA). The federal EA process is separate from any provincial, municipal or territorial EA.

The proponent is responsible for obtaining all applicable permits, approvals and/or authorizations from Transport Canada, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, the local Conservation Authority or other Departments or Agencies. Required permits and/or approvals may be obtained prior to contacting the Joint Secretariat at info@comrif.ca or by calling 1-866-306-7827.
