Message from the Chair
LAT gets its powers from 21 statutes that include a right of appeal to this Tribunal. LAT is composed of independent Vice-Chairs and Members who are not employees of the provincial government or any of its Ministries, supported by knowledgeable staff who are trained to provide effective and efficient service to the public. The Vice-Chairs and Members are appointed for the express purpose of being impartial, trained and independent decision-makers to whom a member of the public can appeal a determination of a claim against a compensation fund or a determination concerning a licence for a regulated business under one of the relevant statutes. This website is designed to provide useful information about LAT in plain language and in an easily accessible format. The website has the LAT Rules of Practice, copies of decisions, as well as brochures that will guide those unfamiliar with the workings of the Tribunal. The site includes a monitored feedback point to LAT for better communication. In addition, LAT is proud of its record of timely resolution of the disputes that are brought to it. Regular posting of updated statistics on LAT’s performance ensures that the citizens of Ontario are aware of the important role that LAT plays in consumer protection and LAT’s ability to provide that service efficiently and fairly. Thank you for visiting this website. Lynda C.E. Tanaka, B.A., LL.B., FCIArb., C.Arb. |
