Brockville
Brockville logoFirst settled in 1785, Brockville was named in 1812 in honour of a hero of the War of 1812, Sir Isaac Brock. Brockville was Ontario's first incorporated community. It has the distinction of possessing an authentic coat of arms, and is one of the very few North American cities with its own flag.

Around the world, most people think of the 1000 Islands as a tourist destination. It is, but those that live here know how much more fun it is to be here all year long.

During the hot and lazy days of summer, inhabitants and tourists from around the world come to boat, fish, sail, camp, golf (at five local courses and another 35 within one hours drive!), scuba dive (best fresh water diving in the world), cycle and hike. Some like to paint and photograph the wild beauty of the river.

In winter, while much quieter, the region is still teaming with activity. Cross country skiing, snowmobiling, hiking, ice fishing, ice boating, hockey or just skating on the river.

Brockville is host to countless festivals, events and fun activities. Celtic Festival, Buskers, Riverfest, Ribfest, Automotion, and 1000 Islands Poker Run attract over four hundred thousand people to the region.

"Part of the charm of the area is that you can live in the country but work in the city and be minutes apart!"

Brockville has unique attractions such as Canada's oldest railway tunnel which was constructed between 1854 and 1860. Victoria Hall (City Hall) was constructed on top of the tunnel between 1862 and 1864. The tunnel runs for 4 blocks under the City. In 1889 G.T. Fulford made his fortune with Dr. William's Pink Pills for Pale People. His home, Fulford Place, is now a showcase to the success of the patent medicine products.

Seniors can enjoy the Arts, local seniors clubs, fine dining in and around Brockville and a safe place to live. The World Health Organization Designation as a Safe Community was confirmed on Brockville, Ontario as the first such designation in Ontario, second in Canada. The Seniors portal offers quick access to most if not all community recourses.

We have been testing our seniors, such as the CSPN. The latest test or pilot is the Computers for Seniors program which gives a computer to a senior, offers training and supplies 6 months of internet for free. If this works it may be coming to your community soon.
