The Township is located within the north eastern quadrant of Peterborough County and its irregular border extends from Stoney Lake in the south to the borders of the Municipality of Highlands East to the north, the Township of Havelock-Belmont-Methuen in the east and the Township of Galway-Cavendish-Harvey to the west. The municipality is approximately 765 square kilometres in area comprised mainly of forest, lakes, creeks and rivers which provide for a variety of wildlife.

The Township is located midway between the City of Peterborough and the Town of Bancroft which both offer all the amenities of larger urban centres. The Village of Apsley offers medical and dental facilities, an ambulance base, a school, larger grocery outlets and smaller general stores, libraries, retail and commercial operations including restaurants, real estate and legal services, a legion, two golf courses and a bank and post office. The Township provides a full range of parks and year round recreational facilities and programs including an indoor ice surface.
