Nestled among breathtaking hills and surrounded by dozens of lakes and rivers, the Municipality of Powassan is a great place to live, play and visit. With a population of over 3,200, the entire municipality has a small-town, friendly atmosphere that welcomes newcomers and old acquaintances alike.

 

The Municipality of Powassan is a great place to be - all year round! In the summer,  clear, cool lakes beckon to the water enthusiast, while many sporting events for all activity levels are available throughout the community. All winter long, there's cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, ice-skating, ice fishing and more! And nearly every month, there's a festival or community event that's perfect for all ages.

Recently, the new Municipality of Powassan has undertaken several projects such as encouraging new developments in water quality, expanding the residential home for the aged, and creating new recreation programs for citizens of all ages.

 

Some of the community organizations offering programs include:

Powassan Agricultural Society
The Powassan Agricultural Society hosts events annually in and around the community. The Society hosts an annual fall fair the long weekend in September at the Powassan Fairgrounds. There are many events planned for the day. The Society welcomes anyone to become a member; to be part of an organization that is an integral part of our rural heritage. 

Trout Creek Agricultural Society
The Trout Creek Agricultural Society holds their annual Fall Fair the second last weekend in August at the Trout Creek Community Centre. There is a corn roast, horse show and craft and baking sales from local artists. This group is proactive in promoting the benefits of agriculture. 

Powassan Historical Society
The Powassan Historical Society operates the Clark House Museum. Their annual fund raiser - History Alive Day is held every July. The museum is open from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. (Mid-June until Labour Day Weekend). Contact the museum for more information. 

Powassan Horticultural Society
Powassan & District Horticultural Society - 2006 - 50 Years Old

The Society meets every 2nd Tuesday of the month (except July, August, December & January) at 7:00 pm at the Golden Sunshine Club, Edward Street, Powassan. Guest speakers are often highlighted, discussing relevant topics. 

Powassan Lions
The Powassan Lions Club holds a fish fry every spring and numerous activities such as a Bike Rodeo and Santa Skate. They contribute monies to many local organizations such as; Minor Hockey and Figure Skating. They work closely with the CNIB and their Leader Dog Program. 

Trout Creek Lions
The Trout Creek Lions hosts a weekly bingo, a craft show in November, and a golf tournament to support Camp Quality a children's cancer camp, local bike rodeos, the CNIB, Adopt a Highway Program, and the General Community Welfare Program. 

Royal Canadian Legion
- Bingo: Every Monday Night except Dec 25/06 and Jan 1/07 - Friends, Day Away Program: Friday 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. - Tuesday Night Darts @ 7:30 p.m. - open to the public - Thursday Night Dart League: Sept - April @ 7:30 p.m. - Annual Slow Pitch Tournament: 3rd weekend in August - Remembrance Day Moment of Silence

The Golden Sunshine Club
Join the Golden Sunshine Club. Tuesdays you can play Bid Euchre starting at 1:30 p.m. On Thursdays the club offers Euchre at 7:30 p.m., and 500 on Fridays at 1:30 p.m. Play Cribbage each Sunday at 1:30 p.m. ~ New members are always welcome!

Seniors for Seniors
Seniors for Seniors meet at the Golden Sunshine Club. They offer their members weekly low impact fitness, and line dancing classes.

Trout Creek Senior Friendship Club
Trout Creek Senior Friendship Club meets regularly for social and fun events such as cards, and darts. The club with the assistance of the Municipality and Northern Ontario Heritage Fund, is currently constructing a new hall to better meet accessibility needs.
