Complaint Processing Guides

The Ontario Human Rights Commission (“Commission”) continues to have a duty to receive and process complaints of discrimination filed under the Ontario Human Rights Code (“Code”). The Commission also has a duty to investigate and attempt to settle all complaints filed by the public in a timely manner.

The Commission’s complaints process is described below. The process is designed to:

  1. Provide all parties with a clear understanding of the complaint timelines and their responsibilities
  2. Build on the Commission’s success with mediation
  3. Benefit complainants and respondents by moving cases through the complaint system faster
