RECOGNIZING LEADERS IN ACCESSIBILITY

Ontario Mainstreet Accessibility Awards

Many of Ontario’s businesses and organizations are already becoming leaders in accessibility. And they deserve to be recognized for the good work they are doing.

That’s the goal of the Ontario Mainstreet Accessibility Awards program. The program:

  • is new — established in 2006 — by the Toronto Association of Business Improvement Areas, the Ontario Business Improvement Area Association and the Ministry of Community and Social Services
  • recognizes and celebrates small businesses and organizations in Ontario who go to great lengths to make their operations and services accessible to people with disabilities

Awards are given in two categories:

Small business

  • recognizes businesses that have taken steps to meet the needs of people with disabilities through customer service, physical accommodation and hiring practices

Communities

  • recognizes communities that have taken steps to meet the needs of people with disabilities who live in or visit their communities
