Further, you may not be connected directly to a 9-1-1 centre. Please refer to the C.R.T.C.  Telecom Decision CRTC 2005-21 and Telecom Decision CRTC 2005-61 for additional information.

Subscribers are reminded to clearly determine from their service provider, what level of 9-1-1 service is available to them when using a VoIP telephone system.

If you do call 9-1-1 for an emergency:

  1. Give your exact location. Include address and town or city as this will enable call taker to either handle the information or transfer you to the proper 9-1-1 centre
  2. Give your telephone number including the area code
  3. Advise the nature of your call
  4. Listen to the call takers instructions – depending on the location and type of incident, you may be transferred
Stay on the line until advised to hang up
