Six Nations Re-Awakens Gaylord Powless Arena
|
|
12/01/06 – Ceremony today kicks off the grand re-opening of the Gaylord Powless Arena.
The 30-plus-year-old arena has been a longstanding community icon. Six Nations greatest athletes, memorable community functions, and visiting dignitaries alike have made their marks within this building.
Today’s ceremony marks the completion of the second phase of construction of the Parks and Recreation Master Plan. Six Nations guests, dignitaries, and members of the Parks and Recreation Department made their way unto the ice with aid of a red carpet to participate in an hour long presentation recognizing the Phase II completion, Parks and Recreation achievements, and community spirit that made this day become a reality.
During the on-ice ceremony; Parks and Recreation Director Cheryl M. Henhawk, was presented with a plaque for recognition of her hard work and dedication in seeing Phase II of the Parks and Recreation Master Plan completed.
After the presentation everyone was invited to the Arena’s lobby for cake and an opportunity to buy the Arena’s famous french fries for a dollar an offer that could not be refused by many in attendance.
The ceremony included display booths with presenters telling the story in pictures of what all new features now detail the Gaylord Powless Arena.
