Marketing Regulations

  • Agricultural Marketing Programs Act (AMPA): The Agricultural Marketing Programs Act (AMPA ) offers two programs to assist producers and marketing agencies to market their commodities/products: the Advance Payments Program; and the Price Pooling Program.
  • ARCHIVE - Agricultural Products Marketing Act (APMA): The Agricultural Products Marketing Act (APMA) governs the marketing of agricultural products in interprovincial and export trade.
  • Competition Act - Misleading Advertising and Deceptive Marketing Practices: The Competition Act contains provisions addressing false or misleading representations and deceptive marketing practices in promoting the supply or use of a product or any business interest.
  • Competition Act - Pyramid Selling and Multi-Level Marketing Schemes: The Competition Act explains the differences between multi-level marketing plans and schemes of pyramid selling, and sets out the responsibilities for operators and participants in these types of plans.
  • Food Labelling: The Canadian Food Inspection Agency administers the federal labelling requirements for prepackaged foods under the Food and Drugs Act and Regulations and the Consumer Packaging and Labelling Act and Regulations.
  • ARCHIVE - Food: The Food and Drug Regulations (Regulations) specify compositional requirements for standardized foods and regulate limits and /or permitted uses for food additives, agricultural chemicals, veterinary drugs, packaging materials, food irradiation process and prescribe areas and levels for nutrient fortification of foods. In addition, the Regulations specify requirements for the production, labelling, marketing, distribution and processing of pharmaceutical drugs.
  • Labelling - Packaging Consumer Products (Non-Food): The Consumer Packaging and Labelling Act applies to any person who is a retailer, manufacturer, processor or producer of a product, or a person who is engaged in the business of importing, packing or selling any product.
  • Labelling - Textiles: The Textile Labelling Act applies to any person who manufactures, processes, finishes, imports or sells consumer textile articles.
  • Labelling Claims: The Competition Bureau administers the Textile Labelling Act and the Canadian Care Labelling Program at all levels of trade. The Textile Labelling Act and the Textile Labelling and Advertising Regulations specify the requirements for the labelling and advertising of consumer textile articles.
  • Responsibilities Under the Tobacco Act: The Tobacco Act is applicable to all people, including retailers, distributors, importers and manufacturers of tobacco products.
  • Therapeutic Products: The Food and Drugs Act and Regulations set requirements for the production and sale of food and drug products. The Act governs the manufacturing, producing, marketing, labelling, importing and exporting of foods and drugs. The Act contains provisions for inspection and enforcement, and contravention of the Act can result in fines and imprisonment.
