Business Practices and Consumer Protection Act:
Any person who accepts an advertisement shall maintain a record of the name and address of the person who furnishes the advertisement. For the purposes of this Act, a deceptive act or practice includes any oral, written, visual, descriptive, or other representation, including non-disclosure; or any conduct having the capability, tendency, or effect of deceiving or misleading a person.
The Business Practices and Consumer Protection Authority (BPCPA) investigates consumer complaints, seeks redress for consumers who have been treated improperly by a business, and works with businesses that to ensure they are complying with consumer protection legislation.

Industry Self Governance:
Created by the advertising industry in 1957, Advertising Standards Canada (ASC) was founded on the belief that advertising self-regulation best serves the interests of the industry and the public. This principle has continued to guide ASC?s work and activities for close to 50 years.
Canadian Code of Advertising Standards (Code) sets ASC standards for acceptable advertising. ASC accepts and responds to written complaints from consumers about advertisements currently running in Canadian media. Complaints that raise a potential Code issue are reviewed by independent, volunteer bodies ? the national and regional Consumer Response Councils.
