Livestock Protection Act:

This Act applies to the unorganized parts of the province although certain sections are applicable within municipalities. It provides a no fault compensation scheme resulting from losses of domestic animals caused by dogs. A licensing system for dogs is authorized and authority is given for the destruction of dogs under certain circumstances.

Animal Disease Control Act

This Act gives power to control specific animal diseases which are considered a danger to the livestock industry of British Columbia.

Livestock Public Sale Act

This Act provides terms and conditions for licences to livestock auctioneers and dealers, and public sale yard operators. Regulations include standards for a public sale yard and public sale yard procedures. Powers and duties of inspectors of livestock are described.

Livestock Act

This Act applies to the establishment of livestock districts, control areas, pound districts, and artificial insemination centres.

Although Livestock Districts, Bull Control Areas and Pound Districts are also established by regulation under this Act, there are a great many of them that are not included in the Consolidated Regulations of British Columbia. Livestock Lien Act

This Act creates a possessory lien in favor of every keeper of a livery, boarding or sale stable and every keeper of cattle holding any livestock or effects. The lien on the livestock or effects left with them by their owners is for the value or price of food, care, attendance or accommodation furnished for the livestock.

This Act provides protection for the public by providing a registry enabling people to search for the title of livestock to find if there are claims (liens) registered against it.

The Health Management and Regulatory Unit provides the regulatory enforcement of ten Provincial Acts and coinciding Regulations.

The Animal Health and Regulatory Unit Staff:

- provide information on how to file a livestock lien
- licence 7 different licenses that are required by Act and Regulation
- maintain approximately 120 pound districts
- regulate and conduct inspections surrounding the milk industry
- administer the Game Farm Act, Livestock Act, Livestock Protection Act
