Municipal Bylaws:
The BC Pawnbrokers Act was repealed by the Deregulation Statutes Amendment Act in 2002. Since then, most municipalities have created their own bylaws that restrict the location, hours and activities of Second-hand Dealers and Pawnbrokers.

BC Pawnbrokers Association:
The BC Pawnbrokers Association is not a regulatory body but seeks to improve the Pawnbrokers industry trough the following goals: - To represent the Pawnbrokers within the Province of B.C. both on local and province wide level. - To address law makers of the needs and rights of B.C. Pawnbrokers. - To enhance the image of the Pawnbroking Industry by working with local and provincial authorities. - To have all members of the B.C. Pawnbrokers Association abide by a strict code of ethics resulting in ethical business operations. - To aid in the defense of non-justified infringements of the rights of B.C. Pawnbroker Members. - To keep abreast and inform all members of changes in our statues and bills. - To better educate pawnbrokers and recommend services and supplies. - To use the strength as a political force to stand together in a unified manner.

Business Practices & Consumer Protection Act:
The Business Practices and Consumer Protection Authority (BPCPA) investigates consumer complaints, seeks redress for consumers who have been treated improperly by a business, and works with businesses that to ensure they are complying with consumer protection legislation.
The BPCPA assists individuals with mediation and referrals where possible but does not generally prosecute cases for individuals. Priority is given to complaints of clear public interest that affect many individuals, involve significant losses or vulnerable and elderly victims.
