Land Act & Crown Land

The following is meant solely to help the reader understand the main features of primary regulations governing this activity, and not meant in any way to provide a legal interpretation.

Land Act: (for private utilities and communication services):
The Land Act enables provincial Crown land to be made available for a range of private, residential, commercial, agricultural and industrial uses.

Land may be offered by sale or lease, through public competition or by direct application. To be eligible for commercial or industrial land, corporations must be registered in B.C. or incorporated under federal law. Partnerships must also be registered. For agricultural acquisitions, special corporate eligibility requirements also apply. This Act requires private utilities and communication companies to obtain land act tenure if Crown Land is to be used.
