Veterinarian
The following is meant solely to help the reader understand the main features of primary regulations governing this activity, and not meant in any way to provide a legal interpretation.
Veterinarians Act:
This Act provides the legal framework for those persons permitted to practice veterinary medicine in the province of British Columbia. It outlines the qualifications, conduct and practice required of veterinarians. The British Columbia Veterinary Medical Association (BCVMA) is continued and recognized.
This Act effectively controls who practices veterinary medicine in British Columbia. It permits policing of veterinarians registered with the BCVMA and the means of control if they are considered unethical, negligent or incompetent. It also provides a pool of specialized people to identify diseases which could pose a serious threat to British Columbia livestock.

Veterinary Laboratory Act:
This Act states that a person shall not operate a veterinary laboratory unless he/she is a registered veterinarian under the Veterinarians Act and the holder of a valid license. This act also requires that the veterinarian report, on a monthly basis, the diagnosis of any name diseases.
