Cosmetologists Act: There are no government regulations specific to this industry since the Cosmetologists Act was repealed on December 31, 2003.
This industry is subject to inspections by the Regional Health Authorities (Ministry of Health) to prevent unsanitary conditions and the spread of disease.
The Cosmetology Industry Association of British Columbia (CIABC):
The CIABC is dedicated to the personal, creative and financial success of BC?s many talented beauty professionals. When government regulation ceased in 2004, the industry created this new voluntary association of committed professionals. CIABC continues to oversee the development of the training curricula and certification of BC?s beauty professionals.
There are many benefits to belonging to CIABC. Education and certification are at the core of the association. Through education, they provide the tools for students to access their chosen career and for professionals to reach new heights in their career. Members include hairstylists, barbers, estheticians, nail technicians, salon and spa owners, educators, beauty school owners, beauty school students, apprentices, manufacturers and wholesalers.
